The chakras are energy centers in the subtle body that correspond to various physical, mental, emotional and spiritual characteristics.

Does that sound like some crazy, new age hippy nonsense to you? Initially, it did to me but since I am jive with that kind of thing, I researched more and found how accurately the description of unbalanced chakras were corresponding to issues I was having with my physical and mental well-being.

I began working my way through the chakras and applying a personal mantra based on the struggles I was facing in each one. You can read through that exploration below.

If you are interested in learning more about the chakras, I recommend books by Anodea Judith (Eastern Body Western Mind has truly been life changing, for me). You can also email me with any questions or to discuss more. I literally cannot talk about the chakras enough.

The Root Chakra & HOME

This past weekend I had the amazing pleasure of sharing my passion for the chakra system with a group of ladies at our Intro to the Chakras workshop. This was the only picture that I took because I was far too engrossed in our conversation, our sharing, our learning...

Why I Love the Chakras

Yoga has changed my life in so many ways. I started attending classes because I heard it could help me with all the issues I was having in body from running. I did indeed find relief for my back, foot and knees, but soon realized there was "something else." I have had...

Crown Chakra-Sahasrana

The crown chakra is associated with being connected to a higher power. You can choose to sub in God, the Divine, or your own personal Deity that fosters this connection. You can even chose to sub in your own Inner Wisdom, if no other outside force makes sense. The...

Third Eye Chakra-Ajna

Throat Chakra-Visuddha

My throat chakra has required the most work, attention and feelings of discomfort. Speaking my truth freely has not  always come easy. I think of the  throat chakra as associated with assertiveness. Whenever I teach communication or anger management skills to my...

Heart Chakra-Anahata

The heart chakra is the core of the chakras. With three above and below, it's the bridge between the lower chakras call to action and the upper chakras call to thought. The heart chakra is associated with the RIGHT TO LOVE AND BE LOVED. The heart chakra's energy is...

Sacral Chakra-Svadhisthana and Why We Cry in Yoga

This week's focus is on the Sacral Chakra. The Sacral Chakra is associated with pleasure, creativity and sexual energy. When this chakra is too closed, there can be repression, suppression of creativity, a sense of being out of touch with sexuality or a denial of...

Root Chakra-Muladhara

Over the next seven weeks, I will explore and examine each one of my chakras and my yoga classes throughout that week will be devoted to the corresponding chakra. The first is the root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with...

Intro to the Chakras

Digging into to the chakras has been life changing for me. I loooooove learning more about them, reading, exploring, talking, teaching and now here, writing about them. What is not always so fun is actually putting in the work to balance them out, but I am going to...
